Skyrim Armor and Weapon Crafting Guide

Skyrim Armor and Weapon Crafting Guide

Skyrim armor and weapon (gear) crafting guide by strafefaster. Want to learn how make some of the best gear in Skyrim? Something like the sword you see on the right?

After about 30 hours of playing the game I've come across some great tips for leveling up blacksmithing and enchanting along with creating the best Legendary gear for your character. Some of this I came across online just reading general tips but a lot was experimenting on my own.

I'll start with leveling the two crafting professions. You should probably have about 15,000 gold before we start this and be ready to spend a lot of time waiting 48 hours for shops to replenish. The best way level them is to do them both at the same time. This will save you both time and gold.

How to make the gold needed: There really isn't an easy way to make gold in Skyrim (from my experience.) The way I did it is to just keep killing lots of enemies and selling armor, weapons, items, etc in different towns. (When one merchant runs out of gold, just go to a different town, or you can wait 48 game hours and re-zone to restock their gold.) If you have some other ideas on making gold in Skyrim, please leave a comment at the bottom of the page.)

For blacksmithing you want to create iron daggers. These take 1 Iron Ingot and 1 leather scrap each. You can buy Iron Ingots, Iron Ore, Leather, and Leather scraps from people near forges.

It took me exactly 540 to reach 100 blacksmithing.

Enchanting is a little more difficult. I hightly recommend using The Mage Stone for the 20% boost. First off you need enchantments. To get these you just have to disenchant an item that you already own that has an enchantment on it. You can generally buy items with whatever enchantment you want from a vendor, you just have to look for it. Second thing you need are soul gems with souls in them. Luckily the mages in the College sell these. Take the daggers you made and throw whatever enchantment you have have that will sell for the most money. For me this was Turn Undead.

Eventually you will hit 100 with both and your stat screen will look like this.

Before we start making our Legendary armor / gear you need to make sure your perks look something like this:

Make sure you have 5 points in Enchanter and get Insightful and Corpus Enchanter. These % values add up quick and make a huge difference. Blacksmith should look like this:

If you use light armor take the left side of the tree, heavy armor take the right side. Make sure you get the perk that corresponds with the weapon type you will be using as well. This makes a HUGE difference at the grindstone.

Legendary Armor / Gear

Now for the fun part, making Legendary armor / gear. First thing you need to do is get some grand soul gems and a potion that increases your Enchanting by a certain %. I've only ever found 30%'s from vendors but I think you can get up to 50% though I'm not sure and I've never seen one. You need to create a full set of gear that improves your Blacksmithing. I found an item with this enchant from the trader in Whiterun so keep an eye out for it. Craft these four pieces of gear.

As you can see one of those items is only 25% while the rest are 27%. That is becasue I didn't have the enchanters potion for that item.

Once you have your blacksmith set of armor created you need to get a Blacksmith potion. This is the same as the Enchanters potion and again the highest I could find was 30%. Use the potion then go to the grindstone to improve your weapon and the workbench to improve your main set of armor.

You might notice that your weapon isn't in the 200's like mine is. Well we're not done yet. You still need to Enchant your main set so make sure you have the 2 enchants you want and all the grand soul gems you need, and you'll need another enchanting potion. Here's what my set looks like.

Yes my restoration spells really are free to cast with this set :D The % increases at the bottom of weapon trees does increase the number too, which is something to keep in mind.

I hope this helps. If you see any errors or any way to improve on my tips please feel free to share them.
If anyone has better gear than this please show it. I know for a fact that this isn't the best gear can get, it isn't even what I have planned as my final set right now. I'd love to see some great armor.
